The Nature Reserve

The Malingsbo-Kloten Nature Reserve offers breathtaking scenery for SUP enthusiasts. Glide across mirror-like lakes surrounded by pine forests, steep cliffs and untouched wilderness. The calm, current-free waterways are ideal for stand up paddling, giving you a unique perspective of Sweden's most beautiful inland wilderness.

Waterways

The area features a network of calm rivers and interconnected lakes that are perfect for SUP. The flat-water conditions with no significant currents allow you to paddle in any direction, explore hidden bays, and discover small uninhabited islands at your own pace. The waterways are suitable for all experience levels, making it a perfect family activity.

Fishing from your SUP

SUP boarding opens up a whole new world of fishing. Standing on your board gives you a higher vantage point to spot fish in the clear water below. Fishing is allowed in the nature reserve with a valid fishing license. Species you can expect to find include brown trout, rainbow trout, pike and perch.

SUP Yoga & Relaxation

The calm, mirror-like lakes in the Malingsbo-Kloten Nature Reserve are perfect for SUP yoga and mindfulness on the water. Anchor your board and enjoy the serenity of the Swedish wilderness. There is nothing quite like the feeling of floating on perfectly still water, surrounded only by the sounds of nature. It is also a great way to gather a group of friends and share the experience together.

📌 Starting point

The SUP rental starts at Nordic Discovery's Adventure Centre in the small village of Kloten, located in the heart of the Malingsbo-Kloten Nature Reserve, along Road 233 between Skinnskatteberg and Kopparberg - a 2.5-hour drive from Stockholm.

🕝 Start and finish times - 9:00 to 19:00

During the season (May 1st - September 30th), we're open daily from 09:00 - 19:00. You can pick up and return equipment anytime within these hours. The rental is for a full day with flexible start/finish times so you can get the most out of your visit. Outside the season (October 1st - April 30th) it is open by appointment only.

👶 SUP with children

SUP is a fantastic activity for families with children. Younger children can sit or kneel on the board while an adult paddles, making it an excellent shared adventure. We provide child-sized life jackets to ensure a safe and fun experience for the little ones.

🛑 No entrance or camping fee

There is no entrance fee to the Malingsbo-Kloten Nature Reserve. Wild camping is also free at the rest areas and wind shelters along the waterways (up to 2 nights at the same location).

Wilderness Lodge is located right at the starting point for the SUP and canoe trails. It is the perfect base for a multi-day paddling adventure - stay the night before to get an early start, or relax after a full day on the water.

Accommodation along the waterway

River Lodge in the village of Nyfors, 10 km north of the Nordic Discovery Adventure Centre, is located right along the northern waterway and is a wonderful option for SUP paddlers looking for a comfortable stop between days on the water.
