Björnbacken is a unique Swedish holiday house in central Sweden, just two hours from Stockholm and the Mälaren Valley. Surrounded by forest in a peaceful countryside setting, this secluded forest retreat offers silence, space, and relaxation, with the only neighbours being the animals of the woods. Located in the deep Swedish wilderness, close to beautiful lakes and hiking trails, Björnbacken is ideal for guests seeking outdoor life, nature, and an authentic stay in Sweden.

Björnbacken, the Swedish name for the former Finnish settlement, was founded during the 16th and 17th centuries by slash-and-burn Finns, also known as forest Finns, who emigrated from Finland. Finland was at that time a part of Sweden. The slash-and-burn Finns were offered tax exemption for a few years to establish themselves in uninhabited areas in central Sweden. They supported themselves through slash-and-burn agriculture, where they burned down forests to cultivate rye, which gave them their name. The legacy of the slash-and-burn Finns is still visible through place names such as Paskalampa and historical remains like Björnbacken and Åbostugan.

Check-in after 12:00 PM and check-out before 2:00 PM. Check-in takes place at the Nordic Discovery Adventure Center. The reception is open daily from 09:00 to 19:00, May to September, and by appointment from October to April.

Relax from the moment you arrive! Enjoy the comfort of fresh sheets and towels, provided for 150 SEK per person. To offer you flexibility, you're also welcome to bring your own. Please note that sleeping bags are not allowed.

For your comfort, pricing is based on the number of guests. Parties of two or more will automatically have a private room. Solo travelers have the option of a private room, available for an additional 200 SEK per night.

As you will be staying in a remote area, we recommend bringing your own food for the duration of your stay. There are no supermarkets in the wilderness, so it's best to plan ahead and pack everything you need. The closest towns with supermarkets are in Kopparberg and Skinnskatteberg, which are about 30-40 minutes away by car.

The common kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need to prepare your own meals during your stay. It includes a stove, oven, refrigerator, microwave, and all necessary utensils. Whether you want to cook a simple breakfast or a full dinner, you'll find everything you need here.

Dogs are not allowed in all rooms at Nordic Discovery's Lodges. Dogs are only permitted if they do not disturb other guests, are house-trained, do not negatively affect the decor, and are kept on the floor. The fee for a dog is 250 SEK/night.
