Active nature experiences since 2003
Nordic Discovery is an established outdoor enterprise which was founded by Mikael and Rosario Nilsson year 2003. The company is built up after Mikael's personal interest and passion for outdoor activities, nature experiences, wilderness adventures and wildlife watching.
Our philosophy is to share the great knowledge and passion for the nature and the wild animals with our visitors.
Mikael, who grew up in Sweden, was educated at the Sport Tourist School, above the Arctic Circle in the town Kiruna in Northern Sweden. The Sport Tourist School offers extensive education in the broad spectra of outdoor activities and adventure tourism. Several journeys around the earth followed. Mikael stayed, lived and worked in many countries along the way: In New Zealand as ski patrol manager, in Australia as a life guard, in Hawaii as a photographer, in Japan as a ski teacher, in Taiwan as an English teacher and in Hong-Kong as a security guard. 10 years in Latin America followed with work at G-Adventures. G-Adventure is one of the biggest adventure tour operating companies in South America. Mikael worked for many years as a guide and tour leader on long overland adventure tours in all the Latin American countries. The guide and tour leader position was followed by several years as the South American Manager at G-Adventure's South American office in Peru's capital, Lima .
Nothing was the same after the day that Mikael walked in to Rosario's shoe store in the neighborhood Barranco, in Peru's capital Lima. The store was located just a few blocks down the road from G-Adventure's office. Today, Rosario manages Nordic Discovery's Adventure Center. The shoes are replaced by canoes and kayaks, and one of the biggest cities on earth is replaced by a small village in the Scandinavian wilderness.
Mikael and Rosario married in South America year 2000. Nordic Discovery was founded in 2003, when Mikael and Rosario moved to Sweden.

The Sleeping Beauty
The grass is not greener on the other side of the river, but it took Mikael 23 years and 3 rounds around the globe to find out. The good thing was that the Malingsbo-Kloten Nature Reserve, remained the same as when Mikael left the area year 1980. The time had stood still like in the Sleeping Beauty fairy tale, thanks to the protection in the Malingsbo-Kloten Nature Reserve since year 1950. The forest, the rivers and the wildlife remained the same as always.
The Nordic Discovery team
Today, Mikael and Rosario’s three children have grown up and become a valued part of the Nordic Discovery team. Working alongside seasonal personnel and interns, they continue to carry the family’s vision forward, helping to develop the company while sharing a deep-rooted passion for active nature experiences with visitors from near and far.
I have been privileged to be able to live my dreams and work with my biggest interest, outdoor activities. Something which has been, and is very fun and interesting.

My role at Nordic Discovery is to manage the Adventure Center and all the accommodations we offer. I also work as a guide when I have the chance.
Rosario Nilsson - Property Manager at Nordic Discovery.
After wrapping up computer-science studies at KTH I came on board full-time as a guide and adventure coordinator. When I’m not working you’ll find me climbing, skiing, snowboarding or kayaking.
Thor Nilsson - Wildlife tracker, Adventure coordinator, Photographer & Videographer at Nordic Discovery.
My job at Nordic Discovery is mainly to work as a guide and handle the logistics for our tours. I also work with the maintenance of our accommodations and the Adventure Center.

I recently completed my economics studies and joined Nordic Discovery full-time as an adventure coordinator and accountant. Snowboarding and kayaking are my main hobbies, and I’m always up for an adventure in the great outdoors.
